Internships

The Woodland Group has a long history of creating internship relationships. Our philosophy is that the best way to learn is to do the work from which comes the learning. That is how we structure our internships. You will see from the experiences of some of our past interns what the experience meant to them and why it was an important part of their personal and career growth.

Stacy Dion – “As part of my internship I partnered with a state child services organization. My role was to use quantitative and qualitative research methods to reduce employee turnover amongst newly hired employees by analyzing their current mentoring program in conjunction with personality type. The majority of my work included communicating the potential relationship between mentoring and personality type and strategically developing pairing criteria for mentor and mentee to help positively impact productive relationships in the workplace. I also had the opportunity to fly to Florida to visit with and learn from the son of the creator of the Jungian-based personality profile used in the study.

The internship experience is something that I will never forget, I learned so much about myself and the world around me. I learned that similar personality types are often driven to similar job types. I also learned that over 80% of miscommunications between individuals (employees, family members, marriages) are caused by personality conflicts, in the way we value and perceive the world around us. The project was also self- satisfying as up to that point, I never had so much control and autonomy to oversee such a high level project.

I would wholeheartedly recommend an internship with The Woodland Group to other students as it is an amazing opportunity to work very hands on to create real change within organizations while receiving guided professional development throughout the entire journey. "

Lucy Demers – “I completed an internship with The Woodland Group the summer before my senior year at Temple University, where I study finance. My experience as an intern there was instrumental in my professional and personal development. While I was with TWG, I was given the opportunity to work on a variety of projects and this enabled me to see into many different aspects of the business. I learned to work independently and was given real responsibility, which gave me confidence and made me feel like I was truly adding value to the company.

During the internship I took on a project management role, which improved my ability to prioritize and effectively manage my time. I also gained strong written and oral communication skills. In addition to gaining valuable professional skills, I enjoyed the work and built a strong relationship with the company and employees. “

Fred Mirabelle – “During my last semester at the University of New Hampshire, I was able to gain valuable work experience through an internship at The Woodland Group.  I am very fortunate to have personally worked with Stephen Gianotti.  A great internship is one that lets you fully participate in work activities and express ideas, not just copy documents and make coffee. I believe in order to learn and grow from a student to a professional one has to have an opportunity to do this. While at The Woodland Group, Stephen did an excellent job giving me just the right amount of responsibility associated with work assignments.  This created an environment that was not an easy “walk in the park" but also not too intimidating.  It was just the combination needed to build on a young professional's self-esteem and self-confidence. Thanks to The Woodland Group I was able to get a good look at the real world. My internship experience has taught me that self-motivation is the key to any professional’s success. Since then, I have become more motivated than ever to find and tackle new challenges. “

Magnolia Barrett – “My internship with The Woodland Group was a terrific experience.  I am interested in people and culture and had always been uncertain about how my interests fit into the business world.  TWG integrated my strengths and interests into my internship by having me work on a research paper on the impact of culture on company productivity.  Right now, I am beginning a Master’s program in anthropology at Brandeis University.  Many people who continue their education in this field plan on entering academia.  Although that is a possibility for me, my internship with TWG opened me up to the numerous ways that my research can be an asset to other companies.  I also really enjoyed learning about taking a systems thinking approach to problems and continue to draw on what I learned at TWG today.”

We welcome your inquiries regarding an internship with TWG. You don’t have to be affiliated with an educational institution in order to discuss a working internship with us. Depending on the kinds of project and client-base we have at any given time, our internships are sometimes paid and sometimes they are not paid. We will do everything possible to make a paid internship available particularly if there is demonstrated financial need.
